Free Comic Book Day

Photobucket

Just got back from going to two comic stores with the kids for Free Comic Book Day. Had a blast. Bought some comics, got some free ones and helped support the stores. My favorite decade for comics was definitely the 1970's. Likely because it is when I first got into them. So I thought that I would post a few 70's comic covers that I enjoy a lot.
***Hope to have an album review up later today.

Cool! I'm a big comic fan. I keep up with the latest stuff but I don't buy anymore. They're just too expensive. $3.99? I don't think so!

I haven't bought an issue in about two years now but I buy the trades of Fables and I just recently ordered two more volumes of Marvel Essentials X-Men. I love the Marvel Essentials and DC Showcase lines.

Metal Misfit-I don't buy many new comics. I work at the library so I read a lot of the graphic novels that come in there. They had a lot of sale items today including comics for a quarter a piece so I couldn't buying some of those.

Yeah, quarter bins are awesome. You won't find the greatest stuff there but you can still find some fun, obscure comics. I have tons of '80s Marvel & DC books that I got for 25 cents a piece... still haven't read most of 'em and I've had them for close to 6 years now!

I have a comic book box of shame full of stuff I've bought over the years but still haven't touched.

Hold on. You went to Comic Book Day, but couldn't get out to Record Store Day?!?!?

Bob-Sure. Because...
A-The comic book stores are easier to get to for me.
B-I don't have a working turntable.
C-There were free comics for the kids and the stormtroopers were there (Levi is a fan) at the one store so it was an event for them too.
D-The local record store I went to is now gone. However the local comic store I have been going to for seven years is still there and I think he needs the business. I am glad to try and support his store so that's why I went to the other store.
E-Comics are cheaper.
F-I got into music when I was teenager. I got into comics when I was like four (my brother was already a big comic fan).

Forgot...
G-I planned and met an old friend at the one store. It was kind of cool because we used to go together to comic stores like 25 years ago. Now we both went with our kids to the comic book store.

A - You're not much further from the record store that I am.
B - They had CDs too.
C - Kids are welcome at RSD too (and there are no dorks dressed as stormtroopers, just dorks buying records).
D - The local record store you went to was mediocre at best,so it wasn't a big loss when it closed.
E - Records are cooler.
F - I liked action figures before I liked music (other than Kiss), but that's not a reason to like them more than records.
G - If I wanted to meet old friends, I'd go to a high school reunion or something.

A-One store I go to regularly and the other is close to where I used to work so they were easy to get to.
B-That's true, but I may not make a special trip not knowing if they'll have something I want.
C-Dorks they may be, but the kids enjoyed it.
D-Agreed, but it was close which made it conveniant.
E-Your opinion and it depends on the item. I like both. My interest in records would be greater if I had a turntable, but that's up to me.
F-I have always liked comics. I have read and collected for years and I order them for my work. I like them about as much as music.
G-This was one of like two people from High School that I had seen in a while that I would actually want to see.

-Both events operate on the same concept. Supporting you local indie store.

No, "Incredible Hulk"?

I loved that TV show when I was a kid in the '70s...so it was my favorite comic book then too.

Another one I had in the '70s was "Superman vs Muhammad Ali".
I bet it would be valuable today...but, sadly, I no longer have it.
